The Vaganova Ballet Academy is one of the oldest ballet schools in the world. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet is one of the oldest ballet schools in the world. It was founded in 1738 by Empress Anna Ioannovna herself and since then the academy has been one of the best.
The Vaganova Academy was famous not only for its famous choreographers, but also for its talented graduates. For example, Anna Pavlova, who shone in Paris at Diaghilev's Russian Seasons, introduced Russian ballet to the whole world, and Marina Semyonova proved to her native country in the difficult 1920s that classical ballet was necessary.
The success of the Academy in different years was supported by the work of Galina Ulanova, Fairy Balabina, Natalia Dudinskaya, Vladimir Ponomarev (one of the founders of the school of male classical dance), Matilda Kshesinskaya, Vatslav Nijinsky, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Ulyana Lopatkina.
